Real-time power consumption display (P1 meter)

Ever wondered how much electricity you're using right now? With the HomeWizard P1 integration, your EcoWatch can now display your real-time power consumption directly on the inner LED ring. Have instant and full control by getting electricity price information and real-time power consumption in the same display!

Here you can see an EcoWatch Ida displaying 3 kW (by the inner ring going to '3') after we turned on our stove.

What is HomeWizard P1?

The HomeWizard P1 meter is a small device that connects to your smart electricity meter's P1 port. It reads your real-time power consumption and makes it available over your local network. When paired with EcoWatch, you get a beautiful visual representation of how much power your home is using at any moment.

What You'll Need

  • An EcoWatch (Julia or Ida model)
  • A HomeWizard P1 meter connected to your smart meter
  • Both devices on the same WiFi network
  • Some smart energy meters might need to 'unlock' their P1 port. Please check with your local power grid supplier.

Setting Up the Integration

Step 1: Connect Your HomeWizard P1

First, make sure your HomeWizard P1 is set up and connected to your WiFi network using the HomeWizard app. The P1 meter should be plugged into your smart electricity meter's P1 port.

Step 2: Add the Device to EcoWatch

  1. Open your EcoWatch web interface by navigating to http://ecowatch.local in your browser
  2. Go to Connected Devices
  3. Click Add Device
  4. Your EcoWatch will automatically discover the HomeWizard P1 on your network
  5. Select it from the list to add it
  6. Click Save

Step 3: Enable Power Consumption Display

  1. Go to Advanced Settings
  2. Under Extra display choice, select Power consumption
  3. A new settings panel will appear with the Starting limit option
  4. Save your settings

That's it! Your inner LED ring will now show your real-time power usage.

Understanding the Display

How It Works

The inner LED ring displays your power consumption using a clever color-coded system:

Color Power Range What It Means
Green 0-12 kW Normal consumption
Yellow 13-24 kW Higher consumption (overlays green)
Red 25-36 kW Very high consumption (overlays yellow)
Blue Negative values You're exporting power (solar production!)

Each LED represents a portion of power:

  • Ida: 1 kW per LED (12 LEDs total)
  • Julia 12-hour: 500W per LED (24 LEDs total)
  • Julia 24-hour: 1 kW per LED (24 LEDs total)

The Starting Limit Setting

This is where you can customize how sensitive the display is:

Start at 500W / 1000W (default)

  • The first LED only lights up when you reach the full threshold
  • Example on Julia 12-hour: Using 400W = 0 LEDs lit, using 600W = 1 LED lit
  • Great for a cleaner display that ignores small standby loads

Start at 1W

  • The first LED lights up as soon as you use any power
  • Example on Julia 12-hour: Using 1W = 1 LED lit, using 600W = 2 LEDs lit
  • Perfect if you want to see even the smallest power usage

Real-World Examples

Julia 12-hour mode (500W per LED):

Power Usage Start at 500W Start at 1W
100W 0 LEDs 1 LED
500W 1 LED 1 LED
750W 1 LED 2 LEDs
2.1 kW 4 LEDs 5 LEDs
4.4 kW 8 LEDs 9 LEDs

Ida / Julia 24-hour (1000W per LED):

Power Usage Start at 1000W Start at 1W
500W 0 LEDs 1 LED
1.0 kW 1 LED 1 LED
2.1 kW 2 LEDs 3 LEDs
5.5 kW 5 LEDs 6 LEDs

Solar Power Users

If you have solar panels, the display gets even more interesting! When you're producing more than you consume (exporting to the grid), the LEDs turn blue to show your export power. It's incredibly satisfying to watch your ring turn blue on a sunny day!

A great way to get knowledge of power consumption

  1. Spot energy hogs: Turn on appliances one at a time and watch the LEDs jump - you might be surprised which devices use the most power!
  2. Monitor solar production: If you have solar, the blue export display is a great way to know when to run high-power appliancesx

This feature requires EcoWatch firmware version 3.5.0 or later and a HomeWizard P1 meter (HWE-P1).

Tämän sivun lopussa puhutaan aurinko energian käyttäjistä. Rivillä “uskomattoman tyydyttävää katsella sormuksen muuttuvan siniseksi aurinkoisena päivänä!” sana “sormus” on väärin käännetty.
